Service

This week was a lot more interesting than most but to be honest that's not saying much for the mtc haha.

We had a lot of service projects this week which was a nice change of pace. As much as I like the mtc, it's getting a little repetitive.

Our first service was working in the cafeteria. It was kind of fun. We were making pulled pork sandwiches for about an hour straight as fast as we could because the line was wrapped around the whole cafeteria. After our hour was up, a really nice old Mexican woman came up and told us in spanglish that she made some smoothies for us. She led us to a sketchy back room where she said she made them and the smoothie was in a huge mop bucket (hopefully not used). Needless to say, it was the best smoothie I've ever had.

The next service we had was guiding the new arrivals to their initiation and then to their rooms, I got to do this for 2 people. The first guy was a little bit nervous, (understandably) but he was funny and fun to talk to. The second guy, however, was a turd, he wouldn't talk to me, and it seemed like this was the last place on earth he wanted to be. I feel bad for his companion haha.

Funny story:
One of the nights my companion lost his airpods so we went to the lost and found. On the way back we were stopped by two sisters and one of them said, and I quote, "elders, elders, wait, we have a question...we're out of chimichangas we want chimichangas will you get us chimichangas, we're sooooo hungry." Me and my companion just stood there for a second, we both thought they were joking cause it sounded so ridiculous, then one of the girls gave us her card and said, "our vending machine is broken." She wasn't joking. So we told her, "sure, I guess" so they followed us to our building, and on the way there they were talking about saying a prayer for chimichangas and, again, I thought they were joking, boy was I wrong. All the sudden I hear them start the prayer, in which they said, "please bless the vending machine in R4 to have chimichangas, thank you for sending these elders our way...etc." Well...there were chimichangas in the vending machine, so...I guess their prayer was answered? It was so weird haha.

In the mtc we have to do HOAs or Helping Others Appointments and they're basically just mock lessons to paid employees that "may or may not be members." They try to make it seem as real as possible but it's kind of hard when there's a camera trained on you, and you can hear other companionships all around you doing the same thing haha. But anyways they just give you an explanation of the person's background and question/struggle that they have and you teach a lesson based off of that. Normally it's easy, but I had to do one in Spanish so...it was not easy. Me and my companion planned a whole lesson for this lady in Spanish but when we started I just had a feeling to talk about something else, and that feeling scared me because I didn't know if I could say what I had a feeling to say in Spanish, but I decided to try, and it ended up being a really good thing. The lady ended up saying that it was exactly what she needed to hear and got super emotional. It was a really cool experience to touch another life in another language.

It's crazy to think that the next email I write will be in Peru. I'm super nervous cause I don't think I'll be able to communicate at all with anyone, but I'm also super excited.

Anyways, Dios nos ama, gracias a Jesucristo, nosotros podemos vivir con nuestras familias otra vez despues esta tierra por la eternidad.

Gracias por todo su apoyo.
Adios
