La selva

Hey guys, sorry it's been a while. I had a few crazy weeks in a row, and I haven't had a whole lot of time to write an email. I'll try to sum up the last 3 or 4 weeks in a short little email because a lot actually happened. I'll just do bullet points to keep it short haha.

-some kids were "playing" in the street as we were walking past and as we got closer, we realized that they were literally throwing rocks at each other pretty hard and when we passed them, they started yelling "mira!! Hay dose gringos blancos!! (Look there's two white, white guys). There were also a lot of cars on that street, so they probably hit some cars with their rocks haha.

-we got done with a meeting and one of the members started following us and we passed a pizza place and he told us we were getting pizza. My comp told him it was working hours and we had to keep doing stuff, but the guy said with a straight face "I've already worked today" and walked right into the place. It was probably the worst pizza I've had in my life, but it was free so I'm not complaining haha.

-I was on a bus one day and there were a group of teenagers talking about me not knowing I could understand them. They kept saying I was taking up the whole bus (I kind of was because the busses are so short) and that I was probably lost because all of the tourist stuff was back the other way. Then they started betting on where I was going to get off. They were super surprised when I got off at a random neighborhood and walked into my house haha.

-I was buying avocados to make guacamole and the lady selling them to me was flirting with me. It was really uncomfortable because I really just wanted avocado haha. She said stuff like (aaah vienes aquí con tu cara y tus ojos azules...puedes llevarme a tu país??) She was also like 35 or something so that was really weird. My comp made it worse too, he said, if he's so handsome he should get a discount and she laughed really loud and started flirting with him too haha.

-the same member that got us pizza gave us mate, which is basically some herbal tea that everyone drinks, and it was way too hot to drink but they kept pressuring us because that's what the people are like when they give you food here haha. So my comp took a sip and said it was way too hot, and the guy said, yeah we drink warm drinks when it's cold outside. He said it like he was giving us some really profound knowledge and like Peru is the only place that drinks hot drinks when it's cold. He was so proud of himself for knowing this secret that nobody else knew haha.

-my phone got stolen, then I got a new one.

-we had transfers!! I'm in a place called Puerto Maldonado, and it's a city in the middle of the jungle!! It's super hot and humid here and its pretty cool being in the jungle! My companion is another gringo somehow. I don't know why I've had so many gringos, but he's super cool. His name is Elder Anderson.

-we were knocking doors the other day and a Def mute guy answered and started doing sign language to us so that was fun.

-the kids here are crazy, one of them came to a church activity with a whip and started whipping all of his friends. They all had crazy marks on their legs but they didn't care haha. I thought the kids were crazy in Cusco but Puerto Maldonado is a whole new level.

-there's a tree right outside of our house that has monkeys in it so that's super cool.

-a lesson went really long one night and we had a meeting at the church afterwards and so we had to run about 2 miles pretty fast and I'm surprisingly still in pretty good shape despite all the food I've been eating. I think all the hills and mountains in Cusco kept me pretty fit.

-we baptized a girl named Yomaira!! She is super cool and was really excited to get baptized!!

Feel free to email me back I get really bored on pday and I love reading emails!!

Also I lost all of my pictures before transfers because my old phone is gone, so there won't be any more Cusco in this email, but I have a little bit from my new area.

The sandwich is called a pepito and it's the best food in Peru.

There are monkeys in that tree, it's just a little hard to see them.
